This little guy has been into some trouble this week. Toys down the air vent and toys in the toilet bowl. One of his footballs absorbed a little too much for my comfort and I had to throw it out. This 50 cent ball from the grocery store was a good replacement. He LOVES it.
This fall me and a few other moms are doing a preschool co-op. Each of us are taking a week (Tuesday and Thursday) and doing a theme each day. We have a schedule of Circle/Calendar time, Arts and Crafts, Snack, Play Time and a little time to do whatever we want. I'm going to do dance coordinated with the theme. And then of course lunch. Rachel has been asking if "today is preschool" for months now. She is SO excited and more than ready for it.
We had our "Orientation" this Friday. We taught a couple songs, decorated their school bags, etc. Tuesday we officially start at my house with an "All About Me" theme. I'm really excited about it.
This morning Rachel saw the newspaper on the driveway, ran to get dressed and headed out the door at 8am to get it and the mail. I thought it was super cute.
Jake and I at different times this week noticed how big Rachel is getting. She's getting so tall I honestly can't believe it. Pretty soon here I'm going to have a 4 year old. Crazy!

Getting by

I don't mean to be dramatic, I know some mother's do it all the time, but Jake has been in Durham for school since Friday and it's my first time handling the kids alone for this length of time. It has been easier than I expected but still tough. Including the night they each decided to be awake for 3 hours in the middle of the night. It would have been nice if it at least overlapped! But we are managing with wonderful friends who have had us over for dinner and doing fun things like, movie night with popcorn and candy.Tommy got this peach out of the fridge all by himself and started eating it. If I knew they could be this independent for breakfast, I should have slept in :)
Yesterday Rachel came bouncing into my room with big bright eyes, "It's the most beautiful day I've never seen!!!" You can't tell from the picture, but there were some pretty pink clouds in the sky. Can you wake up in a bad mood with that? No way, but you can wake up in a bad mood when they come in before 6:00am saying their hungry and want to play in your room.

I love that little man!
One thing Rachel likes to do lately is help me set the table. Usually she just does the dishes, utensils and cups, but last night she got really into it. Empty milk, mustard, bread, tabasco sauce, dressing, yogurt, cheese. Tommy helped a little too.
These kids love their daddy and sure miss him. We were talking to him on the phone yesterday and Rachel kept saying, "Don't talk bye-bye Daddy" "Let's talk on the phone all day long." Just two more days.

Peach Pickin'

I'm hooked! I love this fruit picking business. I love going out in the country and talking to the southern folks and going out onto their beautiful farms to pick fresh fruit, and maybe taste a litte too. Add in a picnic lunch and a visit to the ice cream shop...it couldn't get any better. Of course it wasn't all peachy. Tommy cried the whole way there (about an hour drive), Rachel whined a lot about the dew and mud getting in her toes, and we melted in the August heat, but I honestly didn't care. I'd do it all again tomorrow! But, I've got too many to know what to do with. We made a peach cake dessert on Sunday and peach jam last night. And with the help of a good friend I canned 12 jars of peaches this afternoon. I still have at least a dozen left. All that for $10! Okay, what's next...apples. I can't wait!!
