What a blessing! We've been spending a lot of our time indoors, and doing lots of storytimes at the the library. With the heat and humidity and the millions of mosquitoes we just don't last that long. The other night I was shopping and as soon as I walked outside my glasses fogged up. Crazy.

Simple Pleasures
From our recent travels our airport once again damaged a couple of our suitcases. It is a little bit of a headache, but in the end we have a great deal. 2 new pieces of luggage and an hour of entertainment for the kids...
And last night for Family Home Evening we rode our bikes to the local ice cream shop. This is something we've been wanting to do for years! It just had to take a few garage sales to get the things we needed...bikes and a trailer. It proved to be quite a successful endeavor.

Tommy's Walkin
On Sunday Jake told me he took 8 steps at church. I didn't get to see it because I was teaching Primary. On Monday I tested him out at the library and sure enough, he could do it. That night he was walking back and forth across the entire family room and now he can walk from one end of the house to the other. He only falls when something gets in his way. He's been so close for so long I knew he would take off with it when he finally got the courage.

Black and White and Blue
What we're willing to do for some free Chick-fil-A...Friday was Cow Appreciation Day and everyone who dressed like a cow got a free combo meal. We're definitely making this tradition. Rachel really enjoyed making her "costume" and they had fun games and prizes as well.
Tommy and I tried the new peach shake...very delicious!
On Saturday we headed out into the countryside of South Carolina and went blueberry picking. So much fun! I could have been out there all day. Rachel really got into it and Tommy enjoyed eating them. They really were the best blueberries I've ever tasted. We also got some melt-in-your-mouth-to-die-for peaches!
I made a Blueberry Crisp with a recipe I found from Martha Stewart and even made some homemade vanilla ice cream. Honestly...heavenly.
Tommy thought so too.

"The Fortune of JinJuly"
That's what Rachel calls it...and these flags are "wagons." I think it's really cute. This was a little "project" we did together. She loves "projects" and asks to do one everyday. We get creative sometimes. This last weekend she also started swim lessons. You see a smile on her face and it's true she was happy for the first 15 minutes of her lesson, and then got really nervous for the last half. She was even excited to go again today, but still cried the entire time. She still did everything though. And she'll do everything in the kiddie pool- blow bubbles, put her face in the water, do kicks with a huge smile on her face.
We did a backyard barbeque, put our swimming pool under the slide and it was a huge hit with both of the kids.
Gotta love corn on the cob!
This is our fourth Fourth of July here in Charlotte, and our third time to this good ol' southern cookout at the Carlsons. This is the second year with the blow up slide and Rachel was really getting daring.
These are "hard drinks" and the Capri Suns were "soft drinks." She had 3 of each. I was expecting a midnight visit, but thankfully we never heard from her.
Tommy LOVED the blow up slide and would steer us back to take him on it again and again.
Rachel tried really hard to like fireworks this year, but still HATES them. It was like deja vu sitting inside the house while the fireworks were going.
