Brussels: part one

And we're off...
Even with a layover in Iceland in the middle of the night and waiting through a long passport line the kids did amazing on the flights and that first day in Brussels.  With only a few hours of sleep, they lasted until "bedtime" with all the excitement of being there.  We slept all night and even made it to church the next morning.
The apartment Tom and Anita had rented for their slew of visitors was such a blessing.  Just a couple blocks away.  And we spent a lot of time admiring the view from the windows.
Grocery shopping in Europe is always an adventure
The tiny elevator to our apartment (Kate thought it was stinky)
Walk to downtown Brussels.  We took many of them.  But really...so amazing that we could walk there!

And we pass the Royal Palace of Brussels on the way
The one nap she took the entire trip.

Pita row

The Grand Place
And per routine...a gaufres (belgian waffle)
While Jake and I prefer to do muesli or pastries for breakfast while in Europe, the kids get super excited to eat cereals they never get at home.
Fun with shoelace candy.
Sunday afternoon puppet show
And an evening at the park

Gasbeek Castle

One of the many many times we took cover from the rain
And then blue skies
Neuhaus chocolate factory.  Endless samples...for free!!!  You get really excited at first, but it doesn't take long to fill up and get a stomach ache.  Totally worth it though.

A quick (wet) stop at Jake's childhood home.
Just down the street from the apartment.  Grammie took the kids on a scavenger hunt along this street.  It's just so amazing how many quirky and interesting things are within just a few blocks.  Europe is so cool!
She loves her pink!

Toasting with your fanta! Grocery shopping with your cart in front of the pastries! The stinky elevator! The chocolate outlet! So many good memories. Never to be forgotten now that you have blogged it. Can't wait to see part two!
