Pi Day is a big thing here in Princeton...at least it's getting bigger and bigger every year. A couple of years ago they had a few events in town and we went on the Princeton tour and loved it. Even though Albert Einstein isn't directly associated with the ratio of the circumference to the diameter, March 14 also happens to be his birthday. We celebrated it big this year as well. We had a little Pi party...
This lady, Jennifer Berne, wrote a cute children's book about Einstein called "On a Beam of Light" and was signing books at the local toy shop.
It was a decent day and Lily enjoyed her first time in the stroller outside (beyond the bus stop)
Next was the pie throwing. When they announced they were going to start, a huge line formed and they were asking $1 per throw, but then they asked for volunteers to have a pie thrown at them. Rachel's hand was the first one up. I asked Tommy if he wanted to too but he wanted to throw...until he saw Rachel wearing goggles.
I couldn't stop laughing, it was so fun. After Tommy got hit he took his goggles off and starts licking them. I had two newspaper journalists find me to ask their names and ages and sure enough they were in the news the following day. They were so excited that they were "famous"Throwing paper plates with whipped cream wasn't having much success, so this girl changed that.
I think St. Patrick's Day is Tommy's favorite holiday. Okay he loves all holidays, but he really likes this one. He had a project for Kindergarten of making a Leprechaun trap. He started working on it the second he got home and finished it a couple of weeks early. They set the traps in their classroom and the teachers had a "sleepover" to try and catch him. They went to school the next day and found the room a disaster with glitter everywhere. It was really magical to hear him describe it all. Have I mentioned how much I love 5 year olds!?
They woke up to their skittle trail leading to a jump rope, some bubbles, and some chalk.
I didn't do my typical green dinner because we were invited over to a friend's house for dinner. He made corned beef and cabbage. It was my first time eating it and it was fantastic!! I made these mint chocolate chip cookies for dessert that were really good. And then there's the first day of Spring and our new tradition of going and getting free Rita's Ice and Frozen Yogurt.
despite the fact that Spring still hasn't really arrived.
We've had just a couple of warm days. There was one day a couple weeks ago that was exceptionally beautiful and then it was followed by a windy day with a high of 20. That was a mean trick! I'm starting to see a tiny little bit of color starting to form on the branches so at least there's hope :)

I think there should be some kind of 'good mom' award for making the holidays magical. You definitely get that one! Love the Einstein day....looks fun, especially funny that Tommy licked his goggles.
I love that story of Tommy and Rach! Cute little celebrities. Spring is cruel. So much hope in the warm days only to be dashed by a late winter storm. We feel your pain here. Love Lily's face in the stroller. Cute girl!
I think any excuse to have pie is a good excuse. I made pie all week! Hey, why not? I can't hardly stand how big Lily is getting! She changes with each post. I need you guys to come back.....
You should volunteer to teach the 4 & 5 year olds at church. That is my calling right now and it is THE BEST!
So cute that they wanted the pies thrown at them!
